Located south of San Francisco, spire-like rock formations, caves and robust hiking are the primary attractions of Pinnacles National Monument in Paicines, California. During the spring, dozens of varieties of wildflowers can be found on each trail at Pinnacles, which is also a release site for the endangered California condor.
If you prefer to enjoy indoor recreation, the Cinequest Film Festival screens in late February or early March in downtown San José's theaters. A selection of films are also regularly shown in the beautifully restored California Theatre, built in 1927 by architects Weeks and Day, who also designed San Jose’s Sainte Claire Hotel. At the NASA Ames Exploration Center at Moffett Field, you can experience NASA technology and missions first hand. The Center’s Immersive Theater presents panoramic views of Mars and Saturn's rings on a curved 40-foot wide screen.
