Accessing Saratoga
With the verdant peaks of the Santa Cruz Mountains rising above it, Saratoga real estate has a secluded, rural feel. When you’re in your own piece of Saratoga real estate, busy Silicon Valley seems very far away, when, in fact, it’s right next door. The city of Cupertino, where high tech giants like Apple, Inc., Trend Micro and Symantec are headquartered, for example, is a mere ten-minute drive north of downtown.
Saratoga’s other neighbors include Monte Sereno and Los Gatos to the south, and Campbell and Cambrian Park to the east. The vast Big Basin Redwoods State Park and various open spaces and preserves lie to the west.
Like Monte Sereno, Saratoga is a mainly residential community, with the majority of the businesses in the retail and service industries. The median commute time of working residents here is 25.9 minutes (according to 2008 figures from CNN/Money magazine) and only 11.3 percent of the population has a commute that’s 45 minutes or longer.
Saratoga real estate is accessible from San José via Highway 17 and the West Valley Freeway (Highway 85), which merges into Saratoga Avenue. Other major arteries include the Saratoga-Los Gatos Road (Highway 9), Quito Road, Cox Avenue and the Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Downtown San Francisco is less than an hour’s drive to the north and Santa Cruz, with its beaches and Monterey Bay, is around half an hour to the south.
