Culture and the Arts
If you’re an art lover, then you’ll love Saratoga. Not only does it have a natural setting that’s incredibly conducive to creativity, the city also has a selection of galleries and cultural venues. When you invest in Saratoga, CA real estate, you become part of a community with a burgeoning arts scene.
A haven for all kinds of art, whether visual or performing, is the Montalvo Arts Center, perched high on the hills of Saratoga. Perhaps the most luxurious piece of Saratoga, CA real estate in the city’s early years – built in 1912, it was once the Villa Montalvo, the palatial Mediterranean-style summer estate of Senator James Duval Phelan – the center is one of the South Bay’s top venues for exhibits and performances today.
Sprawled over 175 acres, Montalvo is the home-base of the Lucas Artists Program, which offers support and residencies to up-and-coming artists from all over the world. The center also has three performance spaces – the Carriage House Theatre, Garden Theatre and the Montalvo front lawn – which hosts around 100 concerts and performances every year.
The Mountain Winery, which was originally the famous Paul Masson Mountain Winery, is another popular performance venue in the South Bay and holds 70 or so concerts every year. The winery, which is also in an elevated location, stopped winemaking in the 1950s, but has recently revived production.
You can also find inspiration right along Big Basin Way in the exhibits, readings and performances held at the Aegis Gallery of Fine Art and Gallery Saratoga.
