City Parks
With its wealth of mature trees and spectacular natural setting at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the city of Saratoga and Saratoga, CA property already has a verdant, park-like quality. A quality further enhanced by more than a dozen parks and gardens strewn throughout the city.
The 18-acre Hakone Gardens is the crowning jewel of all parks and gardens in the city. Tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful, these gardens are said to be the oldest Japanese-style residential gardens in the Western Hemisphere that survive to this day.
Once the summer retreat of San Francisco’s Oliver and Isabel Stine, Hakone was built by the best Japanese craftsmen from 1917 to 1929 along the lines of a 19th century Japanese country villa. There are four gardens – The Hill and Pond Garden, Zen Garden, Tea Garden and Bamboo Garden – as well as a historic Upper House, Lower House, a Cultural Exchange Center and Tea Rooms. People come here to soak in the beauty of nature and the gardens’ harmonious aesthetics, as well as to participate in tea ceremonies and attend events like opera concerts. Some scenes from the movie Memoirs of a Geisha were shot here.
The city’s parks are also often adjacent to residential Saratoga, CA property. Some of Saratoga’s bigger parks include the 10.3-acre Kevin Moran, 10-acre Congress Springs, and 6.3-acre El Quito.
