El Sereno Open Space Preserve
Southwest of Monte Sereno is the El Sereno Open Space Preserve. Though not the green space located nearest to Monte Sereno, CA real estate – that would probably be the Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos – it provides the city with a gorgeous backdrop of lush chaparral and scattered stands of woods all year round.
Like the city, the preserve is named after the El Sereno Mountain, which is flat-topped and rises to 2,249 feet. From its peak, you can gaze down at Monte Sereno, CA real estate and the charming town of Los Gatos.
Sprawling over 1,415 acres, the El Sereno Open Space Preserve is bisected by creeks and features almost six miles of trails with varying levels of difficulty that are ideal for hikers, bicyclists and equestrians of all levels. The preserve has a chaparral habitat and while it does have some forested areas, there’s an abundance of open spaces where you can enjoy different views of the communities below.
For even more great views, hike along the ridge for unbeatable panoramas of the South Bay, Lexington Reservoir and the Sierra Azul and St. Joseph’s Hill Open Space Preserves. Remember to keep an eye out for wildlife – some of the species you’ll see here are brush rabbits, coyote and deer. If you’re a birdwatcher, the summit of El Sereno is a great place to spot birds.
The El Sereno Preserve is only one of the many natural areas within easy reach of Monte Sereno, CA real estate.
