Government
Monte Sereno is a General Law City, which operates under the City Council-City Manager form of local government. This combines the political leadership of an elected City Council with the strong professional experience of an appointed local government administrator who functions as the City Manager. The City Manager is in charge of the day-to-day administrative operation of the City, which includes the preparation of the budget, delivery of services, hiring of personnel, implementation of capital projects, and more.
Elections for City Council are held on the first Tuesday of November during even numbered years. The Council members are elected at large and the election is nonpartisan. The council members are to serve the entire community, rather than just districts, and council members are elected to serve four-year terms.
The Monte Sereno City Council and City Commissions regularly meet the first and third Tuesday of every month. The Site and Architecture Commissions meet the first Wednesday of every month, whereas the Cultural Commission meets the second Monday of every month. The Youth Commission of Monte Sereno meets the second Wednesday of every month.
